Floods have destroyed large amounts of farmland, several towns, and many many peoples homes in the state of Iowa (USA). 24 counties, including mine, have been declared federal disaster areas, 83 are state disaster areas. http://edition.cnn.com/2008/US/weather/06/15/iowa.flooding/?iref=mpstoryview over 36000 people are now homeless http://www.desmoinesregister.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080615/NEWS/80615019 Many people who lost homes don't have insurance to cover it, because they lived outside of the 500yr floodplain and flood insurance wasn't even an option for them!
